Georgia's Flower
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 6:34AM
Hummm, I thought this flower looked very familiar. Then it occured to me.....Georgia O'Keeffe's Trumpet Flower.
After posting the original photo, I received a note from Diana Parkes at http://dianaparkes.blogspot.com. She alerted let me that there was a similar flower in NZ that looked very similar and the flower was actually poisonous! I did some research and found that the flower is called the Angel's Trumpet or Angel of Death Trumpet!! Yikes. Thanks Diana for taking the time to let me know about this strange and beautiful flower!

Suzan...yes these are very poisonous....it is also called a Datura plant. How do I know this...my 19 year old grandson almost died as a result of chewing 4 seeds from this plant. It is highly toxic and causes LSD type hallucinations only much worse. His speech went first, then he began stumbling, then delirious...luckily his friend knew what he had taken so they rushed him to the emergency room. Doctors told my daughter that his brain was swelling very fast and they weren't sure what to do for him. He was panicked and talking out of his head so they sedated him and used accupuncture on his head to help reduce the swelling. He was out of it for 3 days before he slowly returned to this world. The doctors really thought he was not going to make it. He has no memory of what happened. That flower is a beautiful plant, but so dangerous....every part of it is toxic.
