Basting the Colorado Star
Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 8:57AM The Colorado Star quilt top is draped across on my 4'x8' work table for starching and ironing (more on my work table here and here). Having enough space to work is essential for me to get a straight bed quilt.
I am using Sharon Schamber's technique for basting my. She says that she can thread baste as fast as she can baste with safety pins. I think it takes quite a bit longer but gives far superior results. She has a free video on the process here.
A little rainbow appeared on the quilt this morning as I was basting. Not sure where it came from. It was there just long enough for me to take a photo and then it was gone! It is going to be a good day.

Love the red and white! Beautiful!!!!
Lovely quilt. Where are you going to use it?
Hey, I just bought my boards at Home Depot to baste my PTTD's quilt. You should have seen me with 10 foot boards inside my car! As soon as I'm finished marking the top, I will be trying Sharon's method as well. Glad to see someone else trying it. I will have to put two 6 foot tables together so I'm sure the beginning part is going to be challenging.
The red and white quilt is just lovely.. I know it will be grand when it is done. Your table is terrific and now I want one too. ha! I enjoyed and learned a lot from the Sharon Schambers basting video. I am going totry it! Thanks for sharing this. Karen B
Suzan, I love that quilt! And I think the rainbow is blessing it with good fortune! Be sure to let us see it finished!
Suzan, your quilt is lovely. I can only imagine what it is going to look like after it is quilted. Looks like you have allowed for some really special quilting around the star blocks and in the border. It is going to be drop dead gorgeous!!!!! I agree with Margo, I think the rainbow might be a very special omen. The Irish always say there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and that rainbow ends right in your quilt. May the luck of the Irish be with you!!!!!
What a beautiful quilt. . .now I see where you used all those geese!!! I agree with Carol and Margo about the rainbow!
That is such a gorgeous quilt Suzan. It must be for a special place?
