MDAnderson Cherrywood Challenge Quilt Completed
Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 10:01AM My submission for the MDAnderson Cherrywood Challenge is complete! This quilt will be part of the Online Quilt Auction at M D Anderson to raise funds for ovarian cancer research. The auction will be held Oct 26 - Nov 9, 2011. I'll let you know when the auction quilts are on online so that you can see all of the contributions to this worthwhile cause.
You can check out the MDAnderson website for more details: www.mdanderson.org/ovarianquilt.

Here was my process for this particular quilt:
1. Pen and ink (archival and waterproof) drawing on Cherrywood fabric
2. Machine quilting (teal and black cotton thread)
3. Paint key areas with fabric paint (Lumiere & Shiva sticks)
4. More machine stitching (teal and black cotton threads)
5. Final stitching (black, peacock and copper Kreinik metallic blending filaments)
6. Ship to MDA and celebrate!

Gorgeous, and for such a good cause too.
This is wonderful.. and so precise! I'm guessing it's a smaller quilt- between 16" to 24". I think that this will be one of the favorites. Your colors are delicious and the motifs are so classic. Is it mounted on black canvas or is that just a conatrasting background for the photo?
I just got some Shiva sticks for the first time about a month ago. I *love* them! What a great product! I also adore Lumiere dye/paints. I find it very difficult to not have shimmer in my work with such products out there.
Best of luck raising tons of cash for the cause!

I was thankful for the reminder that tiny stitches contribute to thread breaking. Besides, the thread doesn't get a chance to "show it's colors" if the stitches are too tiny. Beautiful work. I'm glad I discovered your Blog!
