IMPACT
Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 8:13AM
My university art professor is retiring after 28 years of teaching. Her students have each been asked to create an 8"x8" drawing representing the impact that she has had on our lives.
My first thought was an 8"x8" is not enough space to document the impact a wise teacher can have on a student. Imagine a practical, INTJ, single mom with a degree in computer science taking her first university art course. The first reading assignment was The Tao of Physics! I didn't get it, she must be a crazy woman. I was a fish out of water; at first I missed the target at every assignment. To me my work technically fulfilled the assignment but I was missing the intent. Slowly, with much patience, she taught me to question, to feel, and to sense.
Here is my 8”x8”. Wings to fly, courage to try.
I started with an image of a dragonfly wing and made it into a kalidescope. I'm still trying to decide if it gets printed on brown paper or fabric.
Who has made a positive impact on you and your life? Why not send them a note today?
