Alien Footprints

I have silkscreened and stamped images onto the indigo blue cloth. The wooden block is from Rayela, the silk screen is from Ginney Eckley and the white stamp I carved from an art eraser.

Don't exactly know why, but the little stamped images look like little footprints to me; alien footprints. I was going for subtle, ghostly images that would not detract from the circular focal points. Ghostly, alien, either way I like them.
Next step; quilting and binding.

I've always enjoyed painting

I've always liked to paint; my nails, my walls, my watercolors. Today I painted a quilt.

I did a lovely white-on-white study. Cotton fabric with insets of a Donghia upholstery fabric, cotton batting, hand stitching and machine quilting. I worked to make sure there was plenty of texture since texture would take the place of color in this piece. My plan did not work. It was too subtle (and a little boring).

Paint sticks to the rescue. I added some color and definition with Shiva paint sticks (gold, blue, and copper). Better. But still needs something more. If I had started with a dark background fabric in the first place I'd probably really like it now.

So I painted the quilt with thinned Pebeo fabric paint. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

I placed it on a raised rack to dry. It was humid in Houston today so I placed a lamp near the quilt to help it dry. Moldy batting is not the look I'm going for!

Here is the finished quilt. Because of the various layers it is a little confusing. Is it painted? Is it carved terracotta? Is it cloth? It is not for everyone but I'm happy!
