Monarch

"What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly." - Richard Bach

"I embrace emerging experience. I participate in discovery. I am a butterfly. I am not a butterfly collector." - WILLIAM STAFFORD

On the less poetic side, two days ago this dill plant was 18 inches high. Today it mostly 5" stems and 6 monarch butterfly catepillars! I'll sacrifice my dill for butterflys but they had best stay away from my tomoto plants!

Georgia's Flower

Hummm, I thought this flower looked very familiar.  Then it occured to me.....Georgia O'Keeffe's Trumpet Flower.

After posting the original photo, I received a note from Diana Parkes at http://dianaparkes.blogspot.com. She alerted let me that there was a similar flower in NZ that looked very similar and the flower was actually poisonous! I did some research and found that the flower is called the Angel's Trumpet or Angel of Death Trumpet!! Yikes. Thanks Diana for taking the time to let me know about this strange and beautiful flower!

Seen any good trees lately?

Julie at The Land of Lost Luggage is sponsoring her second annual virtual photo excursion: Getting Arboreal: A Nature Collection. This collaborative event will document a single tree's journey from Summer to Fall/Winter to Spring.

I like participating in collaborations with other artists so I decided I needed to take part. Plus I love trees. There are so many trees but this one I found very appealing today. I like its attitude.

The taller trees are trying to overshadow but it perseveres.

It is August 22, it is hot (98 degrees) but it blooms big happy blooms.

Too little rain but its leaves are dark and glossy.

Too much wind but its limbs are delicate and graceful.

I will share photos with you of this southern belle of a tree as it transitions from Summer to Winter to Spring.
Sounds like the inspiration for a quilt or series of quilts if you ask me.

I had no idea!

I've been blogging about 2 months now. I had no idea what I was getting into but I have learned a few things about myself:
I want to help. I want send out positive, creative, and thoughtful information into the universe.

I don't want to bore you. Several people have signed up as followers of my blog, what a wonderful compliment! I don't want to let you down.

I want to be popular. I started checking the stats to see how many people were checking into my blog. Read me! Pick me! (temporary flashback to being picked last for the dodgeball team in elementary school).

I want to be famous and private!?! I went to Google, clicked on images and typed in "pink and purple horse". The first image was mine....how thrilling, how scary. Thoughts and images are sent out with little control of the life they will lead after I hit enter.

I need you. Interactions with other kindred spirits nourish my inner artist and give me inspiration. Before finding the on-line textile/quilting family, I felt rather alone on my creative journey. Not anymore. I am a member of a complex, wonderful, and ever-evolving community. Thank you all!
